NCAA POWER INDEX CALCULATION METHOD

Step 1 - Determining Game Values

The first step is to determine the Game Value of each game.
If the Home/Away Dial value is 1 / 1, then it is simple; every game has a value of 1. Otherwise, it depends on where it was played, and who won: Ties
A tie is treated as if it was two games - one won by each team - but each of the Game Values is divided by 2.
For example, if the Home/Away Dial values are 0.9 and 1.1, then a tie is treated by the home team as half of a home win, with Game Value 0.9 / 2 = 0.45, and half of a home loss, with Game Value 1.1 / 2 = 0.55, and treated by the away team as half of an away win, with Game Value 0.55, and half of an away loss, with Game Value 0.45.

Overtime
If the Overtime Win / Loss Dials are anything other than 100 / 0, then an overtime game that was not a tie is treated as two games, just as with a tie - one won by each team - but the game won by the winning team has its Game Value multiplied by the Overtime Win Dial value, and the game won by the losing team has its Game Value multiplied by the Overtime Loss Dial value.
For example, if the Home/Away Dial values are 0.9 and 1.1, and the Overtime Win/Loss Dial values are 0.8 and 0.2, then an overtime win by the home team is treated as follows:
The home team receives a win with a Game Value of 0.9 x 0.8 (home win x overtime win) = 0.72, and a loss with a Game Value of 1.1 x 0.2 (home loss x overtime loss) = 0.22.
The away team receives a win with a Game Value of 1.1 x 0.2 (away win x overtime loss - remember, this team lost) = 0.22, and a loss with a Game Value of 0.9 x 0.8 (away loss x overtime win) = 0.72.
Note that an overtime game that ended in a tie is treated the same as if it ended in a tie in regulation.
Reminder: Division I ice hockey calculates overtime wins and losses differently.
Example
As an example, here is William Paterson's 2025 football schedule, using Home/Away Dial values of 0.9 and 1.1:
